TONIGHT M-Net, channel 101, and Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv come to life as a result of who South Africa has decided to make its latest season 11 Idol will be unveiled at the jam-packed Carnival City.
After the falling off of Rhema Verrie last Sunday, the battle line has finally been drawn between the only lady standing, 23-year-old Mmatema Moremi and 24-year-old consistent Karabo Mogane.
Who has South Africa decided to crown season 11 Idol between the two highly-talented individuals?
Last year the finale was pretty the same as it was a battle between female and male – Vincent vs Bongi – though it ended up being in the hands of Vincent!
Could history repeat itself tonight where men have over the years been crowned winners or will record be broken by Mmatema as the very first female to win the idols title?
From the look of things, South Africa is not ready to make a new record of crowning the first female Idol vocalist.
The top two each had three chances to impress the judges and the voters first, a song chosen for them by the Idols SA producers, then the brand new single that they would release if they won the competition, and finally a repeat of their Showstopper song from the top seven Spectacular.
The top two Spectacular was also jam-packed with guest performances from some of South Africa’s top artistes.
But the enthusiastic State Theatre audience was there to see who would come out tops between the two vocal giants.
Karabo was the first to take to the stage with a Michael Bublé’s “Home” him which was the producer’s choice.
Gareth Cliff praised Karabo’s versatility and Somizi Mhlongo said he was the best male vocalist of all seasons and that he wanted Karabo to sing at his wedding.
Unathi Msengana thought it was the most romantic rendition of a Bublé cover.  Randall advised him to give his very best performances now in the race to the final.  Mmatema Moremi’s first round and Gareth thought she might have won the competition with that song alone.
“Those are the types of songs you have to sing,” Somizi advised her. “You speak to the heart and the soul,” he said.
Unathi said she couldn’t believe that this was Mmatema’s third time entering this competition.
Randall said he looked forward to working with Mmatema in the future. The show will be graced by professional performances of MiCasa, Judith Sephuma, Cassper Novest, and the Idols SA Season 11 Top 10.
Somizi Mhlongo might be coming out from behind the judges’ desk to perform as well! Miss it by Choice on M-Net, channel 101 on DStv, and Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv.
