Three vie for ZGU top office

THREE top administrators have filed their nominations for the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) presidency ahead of this monthend’s elections set for Kabwe.
Incumbent ZGU president, Charles Mwanza will not be seeking re-election after serving the union for two terms.
ZGU vice-president south, Jason Kazilimani Jnr will go into a fierce battle with vice-president north, Moses Chitoshi and Zambia Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) director, Aloysius Phiri at the November 29 annual general meeting set for Kabwe Golf Club.
The trio managed to beat the November 15 deadline in which all interested candidates were supposed to have filed in their nominations.
Nkana Golf Club captain, Elario Musonda, currently ZGU executive member north, is set to take over from Chitoshi after his only challenger, Joel Chitambala, a former ZGU treasurer, withdrew his nomination 24 hours before deadline.
ZJGA assistant director south, Christopher Mulenga is also unopposed for the post of vice-president south.
ZGU honorary secretary, Kelly Munsaka, who is the union’s chief administrator, is facing a challenge from Lusaka Golf Club member, Adrian Chundama as he seeks to renew his mandate for another two years.
Incumbent treasurer, Humphrey Mutambo is unchallenged for his post so is the executive member south, Victor Hamukoma.
Roan Antelope Golf Club chairperson, Ashwin Harry will be engaged in a three-man fight for the position of executive member north.
Harry, a former Ndola Golf Club captain, will face-off with Mansa’s Kenan Phiri and Robert Kabanda of Kasama.
Munsaka, who released the list of nominations in Kitwe yesterday, said there was a lot of excitement over the forthcoming elections and that it had also created a good platform for democracy to flourish.
He assured the golfing fraternity that the electorate process would be handled in a manner which would ensure the polls were credible and accepted by all.
Munsaka said the successful nominations would be announced seven days before the elections which will be preceded by the annual Levy Mwanawasa Trophy.
The ZGU honorary secretary also paid tribute to the outgoing president for providing what he termed good leadership and managed to elevate the profile of the sport.
