A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD man of Tara area in Choma, Southern Province, has been crushed by a cargo train in a suspected suicide.
Voster Mulilwa, of Chief Siachitema’s area, was killed by the northbound train on Sunday morning.
According to Police, the deceased allegedly quarreled with his aunt on Saturday evening and left home only to be hit by the train.
Southern Province Police chief Godwin Phiri said yesterday that the accident was reported to Police by Faustino Chisha, a Zambia Railways Limited police officer of Livingstone, who was also on the train.
“The deceased allegedly differed with his aunt at 21:00 hours on Saturday night and left home until he met his fate on Sunday around 07:00 hours in a suspected suicide,” Mr Phiri said.
The body is at Choma General Hospital mortuary.
In another development, a cyclist of Livingstone died on Sunday after being hit by a speeding vehicle on Mosi-O-Tunya Road.
Gasty Dibula, 35, was hit by a Toyota Super Custom minibus registration number AJB 3786, driven by Steven Mwiinga, 49, of Green Valley Farms.
Mr Phiri said the accident happened when the driver lost control of the vehicle, in the process hitting the cyclist.
“The cyclist sustained fatal head injuries and fractured legs,” he said.
The body is at the Batoka Hospital mortuary.
The minibus driver bolted from the accident scene, but police managed to arrest him and is in custody.
In Monze, another cyclist, Milimo Muyabe, 25, of Chiyumu Village, is battling for his life after being hit by a truck at the weekend.
Mr Phiri bemoaned the increased loss of lives caused by road traffic accidents.
He warned that Police would not tolerate careless driving by some motorists and also urged pedestrians to be cautious on roads.
