GRAND Insurance Brokers Limited yesterday signed a two year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zambia Army to sponsor Green Buffaloes Boxing Club in a deal worth K200, 000.
The MoU will see the insurance firm release K100, 000 each year from which K60, 000 will go towards boxing materials and K40, 000 for hosting of annual boxing events.
Grand Insurance Brokers Limited Chief Executive officer (CEO) Henry Malambo said during the signing ceremony at Zambia Army headquarters in Lusaka that, his company will give support to amateur boxing as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Malambo said the two year MoU between the two parties will be subject to renewal after conducting a review.
“We have identified Zambia Army as one of the institutions we need to give support to in the area of amateur boxing as part of our corporate social responsibility. We will give Green Buffaloes Boxing Club financial and material support amounting to K100, 000, each year,” Malambo said.
Deputy Army Commander Major General Topply Lubaya said the coming in of Grand Insurance Brokers Limited will add value to the Green Buffaloes club.
Lubaya commended the Insurance firm for the gesture and that their support will go a long way in improving the quality of boxers.
“I want to thank you for this sponsorship and I want to reassure you that this gesture will go a long way in improving the quality of sport,” he said.
Buffaloes has been a contributor of boxers to the national team with the likes of Ben Muziyo, Charles Lumbwe and assistant coach Wisdom Mudenda, and has a total of 34 boxers (22 are in the senior team while 12 are juniors).
