TENNANT Chilumba and Joel Bwalya will be among the six Zambian coaches picked to participate in the Castle Lager FC Barcelona coaching clinic to run from November 9 to 14.
The programme, to be held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC), will see coaches from one of the world’s most successful soccer teams, Barcelona’s FCBEscola, impart their expertise in a bid to help raise the quality of football in Africa.
According to a statement by Langmead & Baker Limited, the coaches picked are Chilumba (Power Dynamos), Bwalya (Under-17 assistant coach), Chanda Mwape (Lusaka Tigers) and Beauty Mwamba (women assistant coach).
Others are Nchanga Queens head coach Charity Nthala, and Zambia Under-17 assistant coach Kape Melissa, who is also head coach of Olympic Flying Queens.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary George Kasengele said the association believed that the clinics would go a long way towards further developing football in Africa.
“We are looking forward to once again hosting coaches Isaac Guerrero Hernandez and Daniel Bigas Alsina from FCBEscola, as well as the coaches from across Africa for the Castle FC Barcelona coaching clinic. We wish all the coaches the best of luck and an enjoyable stay in Zambia,” Kasengele said.
The coaches from Botswana will be joined by coaches from Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe at the clinic.
SABMiller general manager – regional brands – Alistair Hewitt said the clinics would provide a platform for one of the world’s greatest soccer team coaches to interact, and share their knowledge with coaches from across Africa.
Hernandez, who is head coordinator at FCBEscola, said he was excited to be back in Africa to conduct yet another coaching clinic and was looking forward to another fruitful session with all the coaches.
