THE Zambia Police Judo Club will today be hoping to return their title as they face stiff competition from 11 other clubs during the 2015 Japanese Ambassador’s national tournament.
The tournament, sponsored by the Embassy of Japan, takes place at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka and will for the first time have the team’s event category for both men and women.
Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) acting general secretary Mabvuto Ng’uni said in an interview yesterday that two trophies would be contested for by the two winners from the men’s and the women’s sides.
Ng’uni said the Embassy of Japan had prepared the rest of the trophies for other winners.
The Zambia Army, who finished second last year, will be the other side to look out for with Ippon Community also expected to provide competition to the Zambia Police.
Other teams expected to compete include Kitwe-based Kafinsa, Ogoshi from Livingstone, Mulungushi from Kabwe, Zambia National Service (ZNS) and Sikanze, both of Lusaka.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale will grace the tournament, which national coach Moola Lipimile will be using to identify judokas ahead of the various international competitions.
