‘MEN At Work’ Diggers chairperson Chileshe Bweupe has said the club will extend contracts for the coaching duo of Lawrence Njobvu and Patrick Chanda.
Chanda and Njobvu have been caretaker coaches since the death of Robertson ‘Plough’ Kangongwe in May.
The duo led Diggers to the 2015 Knockout Cup final last Saturday that the Kitwe giants lost 12-3 to Nkwazi in Kabwe, a month after also finishing runners-up in the Owen Busange Memorial 7’s finals in September.
Bweupe said in an interview in Kitwe that the two had proved themselves by guiding the club to two cup finals despite finishing runners-up on both occasions.
“We will keep the coaches as they are because they always say don’t break a winning team. We have a very good spirit at the club and we want to continue with that. It (the contract) is going to be a season one and we are going to give them another season and then we will assess it from there,” Bweupe said.
Bweupe also saluted his players for Saturday’s performance.
“We played against an experienced side like Nkwazi and they were the better team at the end of the day. But looking at 2016, we are very hopeful we have a brilliant and young side and I know they will do well,” he said.
