SIX PEOPLE including a child, died on the spot while six others are nursing serious injuries following a collision involving two vehicles in Chibombo yesterday morning.
The accident involved a Volvo truck registration number ALD 9076 with a trailer number ABR 4132, which collided with a Toyota Corolla registration number ACZ 7471.
Central Province Police chief Lombe Kamukoshi said in an interview yesterday that the truck driver, Kebby Mulapila escaped unscathed, but six people on-board, were at Liteta Hospital with serious injuries.
Ms Kamukoshi said the driver of a Toyota Corolla was travelling from Kitwe. His identity had been withheld until the next of kin had been informed.
“I can confirm that six people, including a driver died on the spot while six others who were in a truck are nursing serious injuries in hospital, but the driver escaped unhurt and is in Police custody to assist with investigations,”she said.
She said the Corolla was extensively damaged and that investigations were under way.
She advised motorists to always observe road regulations to avoid accidents resulting in the loss of lives.
Of the deceased included two females and four males whose bodies were at the Liteta Hospital mortuary.
