Zanaco 4 Assembly 1
ASSEMBLY were yesterday finally relegated from the MTN-FAZ Super League following the restructuring of the Premier league after suffering a demolition at the hands of Zanaco.
The ‘Parliamentarians’ were initially relegated before the demotion and promotion rules were amended during the reconvened FAZ AGM that brought about the new league structure which will see only two teams go under instead of four.
Assembly, desperate for maximum points to save their relegation drop, started on a faster note and made a false start by taking the lead through George Chaloba in the fifth minute after unleashing a shot inside the box off a Tshite Mweshi pass.
But the visitor’s celebration was short-lived as Zanaco captain Ziyo Tembo levelled scores two minutes later after capitalising on an Assembly defensive blunder as the bankers hit top gear with Moses Phiri giving the hosts 2-1 lead in the 10th minute.
Phiri dribbled past a cluster of Assembly defenders before firing past the goalkeeper and Zanaco were unlucky not to double their lead as Aubrey Funga’s goal was ruled off side three minutes later.
Zanaco took control of the match with Phiri registering his brace in the 71st minute after converting a penalty that was awarded after Boyd Musonda was fouled inside the box by Damino Phiri.
Ernest Mbewe put icing on the cake with an 86th minute goal as the bankers consolidated second position while it was goodbye for Assembly who head back to the lower ranks.
Dynamos 0 Nkwazi 1
In the lunch time kickoff, Nkwazi piled pressure on Lusaka Dynamos who were left heavily involved in the relegation battles after suffering their 14th defeat of the season having started the season on a brighter note.
Lottie Nyimbili scored the only goal for Nkwazi after tapping in a Jeff Banda cross just at the stroke of half time following what was a boring first half.
That goal came after Conlyde Luchanga had his shot blocked by Nkwazi defender Kennedy Lungu in the 33rd minute after nicely connecting a Emmanuel Habasimbi pass.
Dynamos were then reduced to 10-men after referee Roderick Ng’andu flashed a red card on Suzyo Mwale for an off the ball incident in the 83rd minute.
Buffaloes 1 Blades 1
It ended square at Independence Stadium where Green Buffaloes and relegation threatened Konkola Blade played to a barren draw, a result which left the visitors third from bottom on 27 points.
Blades scored first through Erick Chisala in the 30th minute before Buffaloes equalised 10 minutes later through Stephen Kabamba as Buffaloes moved to 47 points and look set to grab fourth slot.
Napsa 1 Arrows 1
AT Edwin Imboela Stadium, Red Arrows picked up a vital draw that lifted them up to fifth position on 42 points while Napsa Stars relegation battles continues as they remained fourth from bottom on 28 points.
Lubinda Mundia gave the airmen the lead in the 27th minute but that advantage was cancelled out by Jean Paul to ensure Napsa hangs on to live another day in the top flight.
Nakambala 0 Nkana 0
NAKAMBALA Leopards bid to avoid the drop suffered a setback after they were held to a barren draw by a Nkana side that was looking for a first win following two successive defeats, reports JIM FIKOLOMA.
Mid-table Nkana moved to 35 points while Nakambala are on 25 points, which is two and three points behind Blades and Napsa respectively with three games remaining before the season.
