By BUSINESS REPORTER –
KAGEM Mining, the world’s single largest emerald producing mine, has paid a US$14-million dividend to its shareholders.
The shareholders are the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), which owns 25 per cent of the company on behalf of the Zambian government, and Gemfields plc, which owns the remaining 75 per cent.
IDC thus received a dividend of US$3.5 million and Gemfields Plc received a dividend of US$10.5 million.
This is contrary to the assertion in our Wednesday edition that IDC received $14 million dividend.
