WONDERFUL Industry, a Lusaka based Chinese firm specialised in various home products has handed over a community school constructed at a cost of US$80,000 in Zingalume Township of Lusaka.
The project, which will be run by the Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ) is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility(CSR) programme, which is aimed at paying back to the community.
Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta who handed over the school this week, said he was glad that while some investors in the mining sector were threatening Government with pulling out, others were on the other hand , ready to work with Government.
The fully furnished 1×5 classroom block would be run by the Chisomo RCZ in Zingalume.
Mr Mwaliteta said genuine investors would not wind up their business and leave, but will continue despite the harsh economic conditions.
He commended the Chinese firm for its investment and ploughing back to the communities.
“Honest investors have continued to work in the country and plough back to the community, while fake ones are threatening to run away after making their profit,” he said.
Mr Mwaliteta said Government would continue to provide a conducive environment for investors that invested in the community through their Corporate Social Responsibility.
He commended the church for the contribution it had been making to help Government in educating children in Zambia.
He appealed to the RCZ to take care of the property that had been handed over by Wonder Industry.
Deputy Chinese ambassador to Zambia Qing Jiang Pan commended Wonderful Industries for the project as it would go a long way in assisting the community.
Mr Qing encouraged other Chinese companies working in Zambia to consider offering charity works in the areas they operated from.
General Education Ministry chief planning officer Lancelot Mutale said the construction of the school would help accommodate underprivileged children from less privileged families in the community.
