THE national team’s participation at the 2015 All-Africa Black Ball Pool Championship remains in doubt owing to the Zambia Pool Union (ZPU)‘s failure to raise the outstanding K45,000 for the Lesotho tournament that starts in less than six days.
An eight member team has been picked and is expected to enter camp today in preparation of the continental title that starts on October 26, though it remains to be seen if the shortfall would be found on time to enable the squad make the trip to Lesotho.
ZPU secretary Brian Sinyangwe said in an interview that Spice Restaurant and ODG general dealers are among the sponsors that have helped them raise part of their K118, 000 budget.
“It is still a bit tricky whether we will be able to send our athletes to the Africa Cup of Nations for we are still remaining with a K45,000 deficit required to meet our K118, 000 budget so that our team can travel and compete in the tournament,” he said.
Champions South Africa, hosts Lesotho, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Tanzania are other countries that will take part in the championship which Zambia will be aiming to win having done so in 2013 in Malawi before finishing third last year.
The full team has Kelvin Phiri and Avin Sichalwe (Obama), Moses Mofya and Nkole Matanga(UTH),Remmy Musonda (Corners Games), Elisha Mwaba (Lumwana), Siame Chibuye (Couple Embassy) and Moses Chishimba (Eorill)
