A HUSBAND of Mwense in Luapula Province is alleged to have severely beaten his wife after a difference over fish which she prepared for their one-year-old baby instead of serving it as a meal for her husband.
The man was infuriated after he caught the fish and gave it to his wife, Loveness Bupe, to prepare it for him, but was shocked that she did not follow his instructions and prepared it for their baby.
This sparked a difference leading to the man dragging his wife in their house, where he undressed her and beat her until she fainted, then he bolted.
Police confirmed the development stating that a manhunt had since commenced, in search of the husband.
Luapula Province Police chief, Hudson Namachila said the incident happened at the weekend in Chimba Village in Chief Lukwesa’s area.
Ms Bupe, aged 32, was kicked several times in the abdomen and left unconscious and was later rushed to Lukwesa Clinic.
Paramedics later referred her to Mambilima Hospital.
The annoyed husband then threw away the whole bunch of fish he brought home on Saturday evening.
“The husband was not happy that the baby took precedence over him and in a fit of rage he threw away the whole bunch of fish he brought home that evening. He then kicked his wife several times in the abdomen and poured cold water on her,” Mr Namachila said.
Ms Bupe, who was admitted for serious abdominal pains, is said to be in a stable condition.
