LIVINGSTONE Member of Parliament (MP) Lawrence Evans has expressed disappointment at the level of vandalism on newly installed sewer infrastructure in Zambezi Sawmills Township.
Mr Evans said he was shocked that residents in the area were destroying the first ever sewer line which was placed by the Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWSCO).
The MP personally presented the cheque of K603,750 to SWSCO for the construction of the  first ever sewer system in Zambezi Saw mills area in Livingstone which is yet to be commissioned.
“I have been receiving disturbing phone calls that some people are vandalising the new sewer line before we commission the facility.
“I am very disappointed. What do people want us to do for them? How can people start stealing the manhole covers and sewer pipes which are meant to help them?” he said.
He reminded the residents that the Government had to come in and address their concerns after reports that people had to answer the call of nature in empty packs of opaque beer.
He called on the residents to be vigilant and report any person vandalising the sewer infrastructure.
“They should report such people to the police or do a citizen’s arrest. That way people are going to stop vandalising the new infrastructure,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Evans said a total of 7,428 people had registered as voters in Livingstone during the voter registration exercise from September 15 to September 23 this year.
He said the total number of new registration in the area was 4,107 while the updates stood at 3,314 in the area. Mr Evans said 3,794 had acquired National Registration Cards (NRCs) between September 7 and September 27 this year.
