Four arrested over stolen maize

POLICE in Mkushi District of Central Province have arrested three depot clerks and a security guard over the disappearance of more than 400 bags of Food Reserve Agency (FRA) maize.
The four, who are in Police custody, are Nakashimbi Mfune, Carol Matenga, Charles Ndao and Nicholas Sampa, a  security guard.
Central Province Police Commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi, who confirmed the development, said the four had been charged with theft by servant.
Ms Kamukoshi said Police had also picked up a driver, being held at Mufulira Police Station, to assist with investigations, and officers had been dispatched to bring the driver to Mkushi.
“I can confirm that we have arrested three depot clerks for the theft of 450 by 50kg of maize which went missing at the depot in Mkushi,” she said.
She said the suspects would appear in court soon and cautioned those tasked with managing maize being sold by the farmers to avoid engaging in such acts.
She said Police was monitoring the situation to ensure such acts were stopped.
