THE Ministry of Lands has warned councils to desist from allocating land illegally failure to which they will revoke the agency.
Ministry of Lands public relations officer Diniwe Zulu urged councils to follow procedure in the allocation of land to members of the public.
Ms Zulu said the Ministry of Lands had tasked councils as its agents to administer land but if they were involved in illegal allocation, the ministry would not hesitate to withdraw the agency.
“The ministry has not suspended any council from administering land on its behalf but those that will be found wanting will be suspended,” Ms Zulu said.
She said councillors were not allowed to give land to members of the public but the councils had the right to do so.
She commended the Livingstone City Council that instituted investigations following the illegal allocation of land.
The country has witnessed an increase in land wrangles while members of the public have been conned huge sums of money from people posing as land agents.
