It’s finally here. If you are fashion-obsessed you clearly know what I am talking about.
In case you don’t know though let me inform you that the Zambia Fashion Week is less than a week away.
Starting on the 15th to the 17th you cannot afford to not attend this event.
Seriously with close to 50 fashion designers slated for this year’s style extravaganza you have to show up in style as per global Fashion Week tradition.
I scoured the net and asked around to compile you and I some style tips for this year’s ZFW.
Of course the word is experiment, experiment after all if you cannot be bold and daring at a fashion show then where else will you do it?
It is October so wear clothes that allow fresh air to breeze through them and a throw over or shawl in case the weather changes as it usually does in Zambia.
There will be stands with designers showcasing their clothes, so if you are a shopaholic ensure that your clothes are easy enough for you to try on the wares.
There are of course different kinds of looks that people try to pull off at Fashion weeks.
The first one is grunge, usually all black outfits, leather, studs, ripped jeans, jeggings and rock or biker boots.
At first glance this might make you think someone just picked out stuff from their wardrobe and threw them on but do not be fooled, this look is carefully put together by biker/rock/punk/grunge fashionistas.
This look by the way is favoured by both men and women.
Then you have the archetype of the grunge look which I like to call the girly cutesy look, think little feminine skirts or dresses and generally an immnse.
Ballet pumps and Mary Jane heels, flowery wedges – these ladies evoke 20s-esque femininity and usually wear pastel colours or hues such as plum, lime and tangerine. Yes even the colours invoke pretty images, don’t they?
They usually carry a clutch and will be seen in pink lipstick or lip gloss.
The male version of this is the metrosexual man whom I always look forward to seeing at Fashion shows because they rock up wearing bright colours, blod chitenge prints and you will likely find them sitting in the front row wearing a chitenge shirt tucked into tailored shorts or jeans with a trendy crew cut.
As the Gloss magazine puts it, “basic black is super boring.” Unless you are accessorising it with metallic bling, jewellery, or have bright bold hair.
Come decked out in any of the styles you prefer because like I said it is the week to experiment and if you have a great chitenge outfit wear it and come over feeling free.
