Wanderers 1 Nakambala 1
NAKAMBALA Leopards stole a point off ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers but it did very little to help their survival battle after this MTN-FAZ Super League Week 26 fixture that saw the Sweet Boys stay second from bottom on 24 points with three games left to play.
Eric Chibuye put Wanderers ahead as early as the second minute when he headed in a Jacob Ngulube corner to beat goalkeeper Caeser Njobvu in a match the hosts dominated but could not punish the suspect Nakambala minder.
Wanderers lead lasted just 12 minutes when Elijah Banda capitalised on poor clearance by the home sides’ defence to fire in the equaliser.
Njobvu, despite constantly struggling to collect the ball, then kept Nakambala in the match in the 25th minute when he gathered a Mike Katiba header.
Nakambala were again fortunate to still be level in the 30th minute when Toanga Bwembya’s free-kick bounced off a Wanderers wall but Progress Malama failed to kill the visitors on the rebound.
‘Mighty’ could have wrapped it in typical fashion in the 82nd minute but Chisopa Malama failed to meet a Jacob Ngulube cross in from of another inviting goalmouth.
However, the nine-time champions move one place up the table from sixth to fifth exchanging places with Red Arrows on 42 and 41 points, respectively.
