By KALUMIANA KALUMIANA –
COACH Tennant Chilumba’s days at Power Dynamos are numbered following his failure to win any silverware in the three years he has been at the helm of the Kitwe side.
Third placed Power’s final slim hopes of silverware in 2015 ended on Wednesday after champions Zesco United thrashed them 3-0 to kill their challenge for the MTN-FAZ Super League title just a month after they were eliminated from the first round of the Barclays Cup.
Power secretary Ricky Mamfunda has described the 2015 season as disappointing and that the executive committee will be meeting soon to decide the future of the team following another trophy-less season.
“Nobody is happy with the performance of the team. The sponsors (Copperbelt Energy Corporation) are not very happy.
They have called upon the club management to go down the route and try and to see where we have gone wrong,” Mamfunda said.
Beleaguered Chilumba has been in charge of Power since June 2013 when he replaced Beston Chambeshi and steered the six-time champions from potential relegation to an eighth place finish.
He then guided Power to a second place finish in 2014 but behind nemesis Zesco and made a promising start this season before the wheels came off in July and the latter raced past them to cement their 2015 title target.
Nkana 0 Napsa 1
MEANWHILE, Nkana suffered their second successive defeat yesterday when they lost at home to relegation threatened Napsa Stars, a defeat that came just five days after they lost 2-1 away to Green Buffaloes in Lusaka.
Nkana had the better chances especially in the first half when Napsa goalkeeper Philip Banda denied Walter Bwalya, Jimmy Ndhlovu and Simon Bwalya in the 12th, 15th and 30th minutes respectively.
The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute when Seith Sakala finished off a rebound after Nkana keeper Charles Mweemba parried Brian Lubaba’s initial effort.
Nkana stay eigth on 34 points while Napsa rose from 14th to 13th on 27 points but still inside the bottom four relegation zone ahead of Konkola Blades, Nakambala Leopards and demoted National Assembly.
