VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has said that Zambians should embrace the transformation in leadership to deal with challenges facing the nation.
Ms Wina said on Sunday evening that it was important that Zambians embraced transformation in leadership to adequately handle problems that the country was facing and is yet to face.
The Vice-President said this in a speech read for her by the deputy minister in her office Stephen Kampyongo at the inauguration of the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) reality show, Junior President.
Ms Wina said the current economic challenges facing Zambia and the world required knowledge and critical thinking to deal with them.
“Knowledge is critical in production. It is an added advantage over your competition. We therefore need to embrace transformation that has taken place in leadership.
“To prosper in the new era, we need new ideas, new technology and new mindset,” she said.
It was equally important, Ms Wina said, that the country invested in leadership building.
She was happy that ZNBC and its sponsors developed a programme for teenagers that helped them develop a strong knowledge base.
Ms Wina said the Government was grateful to the organisers of the programme and the American Embassy, Zamtel, Standard Chartered Bank and Zesco for ensuring that the reality show was a success.
ZNBC chairperson John Mulwila said the programme which ran from March this year involved 12 teenage contesters.
Dr Mulwila said the programme would now run for another series.
The ZNBC Junior President was scooped by 18-year-old Perrykent Nkole who beat 14-year-old Natasha Musonda, both from Lusaka.
The winner walked away with K20,000 prize money from ZNBC and K20,000 from Stanchart to help conduct social programmes. Natasha won K10,000 as runner-up.
