LUSAKA Tigers handed Kabwe Warriors the initiative of winning the FAZ Division One South League championship after suffering a shocking loss at Zesco Malaiti Rangers.
With the loss, Tigers were left on 53 points, 17 off the pace.
At Woodlands Stadium, City of Lusaka took a positive win off Mumbwa Medics, a result that lifted them to 33 points and out of the relegation zone.
This was also helped by Livingstone Pirates drawing 1-1 at home to Matero United, allowing the Lusaka side to leapfrog the tourist capital club.
Another relegation dogfight saw Lusaka City Council draw at home to Kafue Celtic which leaves the Lusaka side on 30 points and seriously staring in the hole of relegation.
Nampundwe lost an opportunity to move into second after losing 0-1 to Kalomo Jetters, leaving the race for promotion tight as they are two points off Tigers.
Fourth placed Prison Leopards suffered their third defeat of the season and oddly at home to Luena Buffaloes.
Buffaloes triumphed 1-0 in Kabwe to stay five points off the one remaining promotion place held by Tigers.
As the promotion chasers were losing at will, Riflemen produced a defining 2-1 win at home to Zesco Shockers, a result that took them to 48 points, same as Prison Leopards and with a shot at promotion.
Katete failed to travel to face Mongu Youth.
In the Division One North League, pacesetters Lumwana Radiants gave up a 2-0 advantage to draw 2-2 with title rivals, Kalulushi Modern Stars.
Kalulushi managed to restore parity after cancelling out goals from Rodgers Mukenge and Lembani Lungu.
Mufulira Blackpool kept their promotion dream alive by thumping Zesco Solwezi 4-0 to stay four points off leaders, Lumwana who have 56 points.
Roan United also remained in contention for promotion to the premiership after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win at Indeni in Ndola to join Blackpool on 52 points.
Rock-bottom Konkola Mine Police, whose game against Real Nakonde was postponed, were relegated to Division Two with some five games to go.
Other results Ndola United edged Mining Rangers 1-0 in Kitwe with FQMO Mining also getting a 1-0 victory at Copperbelt Buffaloes while Chindwin Sentries beat Kitwe United 2-0.
Kansanshi Dynamos beat Chambishi 1-0 while Zesco Luapula and Gomes fought out a 2-2 draw.
