SCORES of people joined the rest of the country in launching the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign in different parts of the country.
In Ndola’s Mine Masala Township, Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge said the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign required the involvement of the community, business houses and all the relevant stakeholders.
Ndola District Commissioner Rebby Chanda, who read the speech on behalf of Mr Musenge, said there was need to put in place new and sustainable measurers aimed at making the cities, towns and villages clean to improve the health standards of the citizenry.
“We need to be candid and critically look at the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign which needs to be re-examined with the aim of seeing to it that it has a new sustainable, operational ecosystem,” Mr Musenge said.
He said a clean and healthy business environment or workplace gave a strong positive signal to existing clients and to potential clients.
Ndola Mayor Samuel Munthali urged the community to ensure that they kept their surroundings clean.
“Let’s ensure that we keep our surroundings clean, it will be nice to live in a habitable environment,” he said.
In Lusaka, Local Government and Housing Minister John Phiri called on Zambians to adhere to President Edgar Lungu’s call on transforming the country into a smart Zambia.
Dr Phiri said President Lungu directed his ministry and the one responsible for environment to resuscitate the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign which would transform the environment.
Dr Phiri said President Lungu, during the official opening of the Fifth Session of the 11th National Assembly on September 18 this year, reminded the nation of the urgent need to implement the transformational agenda.
Dr Phiri said this when he flagged off the National Cleaning Programme for Smart Zambia Campaign in Lusaka yesterday.
Lusaka Mayor George Nyendwa said LCC faced a big task of managing solid waste due to resistance by residents to pay solid waste collection services.
Mr Nyendwa said that culminated into disposal of refuse at undesignated points, thereby causing public nuisance and environmental pollution.
