By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA –
A PETER Munyinya-led National Airports Corporation (NAC) on Thursday night won the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIG) Corporate Golf tournament played at the Lusaka Golf Club.
NAC carded a combined score of 107 in a hugely competitive tournament to have each of the four members of the team walk home with a microwave oven.
Those joining Munyinya on the winners’ podium from NAC were Nels Malaya, Collins Musonda and Boyd Kapalamoto.
The win was, however, just one point better than the runner-ups team Robert Banda, Mangani Banda, Sydney Wemba and Moses Chewe, who brought home 106 and was an equally strong team.
Kapalamoto, who was having a great tournament after picking up a winner’s medal in the team event, went on to pick up the winner’s medal on A Division where he brought home 39 points.
Beatrice Mukanda was winner of the women individual award with a hugely impressive 38 while Carol Masesani finished second with 34 points,
Back to the men category, Moses Chewe, who was in the team finishing second also finished second in the A Division where he lost to Kapalamoto on a count back after he also scored 39.
There was another count-back decision in the B Division where Jewel Mbambara had 36 points to take the top honour and relegate Cosmo Mulongoti down into second position.
The C Division had amazingly high scored where winner Likando Nawa also scored 36 to edge out Stephen Mwafulirwa on a count back.
Kapalamoto was not done as he also won the longest Drive award with the Nearest to the pin award going to Martin Mweemba.
Meanwhile, seven top local golfers yesterday entered camp to prepare for the All-Africa Senior Challenge that will be played in Kenya next weekend.
Zambia Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) director Aloysius Phiri said that a combination of the exciting juniors and those that graduated had made up the provisional team that would be drilled by Patrick Mwendapole.
Phiri said that the seven players will be trimmed to four next week who would remain in camp in readiness for departure to Kenya.
