GOVERNMENT has disclosed that Government Printers will next year be in a position to bid for the printing of the 2016 general elections ballot papers.
Works and Supply Deputy Minister Mutaba Mwali told the Sunday Times in an interview during the week that the K50 million which the Government allocated to Government Printers in the 2013 Budget for its recapitalisation had put it in a better position to bid for the printing tender.
Dr Mwali said that Government Printers had made strides in its recapitalisation process as most of the equipment had been delivered, necessary security measures were being put in place, while the test run of the equipment was awaiting connection of power to the commercial web.
Dr Mwali said the test run of the equipment would ascertain Government Printers’ preparedness to print ballot papers.
Dr Mwali said by recapitalising Government Printers, it was aiming at fulfilling the Patriotic Front’s desire as indicated in its manifesto to start printing ballot papers locally.
