ZAMBIA Under-20 women coach Oswald Mutapa says his aim is to ensure qualification to the Papua New Guinea 2016 FIFA World Cup finals.
Mutapa said in an interview after an afternoon training session at Heroes National Stadium yesterday that the players were ready for tomorrow’s second round, first leg qualifier against South Africa at Nkoloma Stadium.
He said South Africa was a strong team and that his side needed to work hard to record a victory that would boost the team’s chances of qualifying to the final round.
“We are having our last training session tomorrow (today) and the girls are ready for the match. Our main aim is to qualify for the World Cup, and to achieve that we need to win this leg to enhance our chances,” Mutapa said.
Meanwhile, South Africa held a closed-door training session at Nkoloma Stadium with Elisabeth Migchelsen targeting victory over Zambia.
Migchelsen told the South African Football Association (SAFA) website that the technical bench was confident of getting a positive result and were finalising the strategy on how to get the result.
“Football is a game and the game’s objective is winning, but to win we must not concede, which is our aim on Sunday against Zambia so that we can return home with a positive result,” she said.
Migchelsen, who is also the assistant coach to Vera Pauw at Banyana Banyana, said it would be fantastic for the Basetsana to qualify for the World Cup, especially with the support SAFA was giving the team.
