Sport On - Chipepo newSO it seems the much talked about Chipolopolo ‘expatriate’ coach may not be employed any time soon after all.
From the turn of events, it is most likely that we will not see any change on the national team technical bench this year.
The negative responses from mining giants, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) has stalled Government’s effort of fundraising to meet the emoluments of the yet to be hired expatriate trainer.
Sport Minister Vincent Mwale has been on top of his game trying to lure the corporate world to contribute a monthly US$25,000 salary but it seems the minister’s efforts are being frustrated.
However, the question still remains as to whether the Chipolopolo are in dire need of an expatriate coach looking at how the local expertise has performed in the last few months.
Well, interim trainer George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he is more than capable of drilling the Chipolopolo to greater heights.
From the stories heard from players, its seems Lwandamina’s methods have been accepted going by the matches the Chipolopolo have played but I am sure he can do more if he is assured of the permanent job.
His record at the helm of the national team the past few months has cleared the doubts many had when he took over from compatriot Honour Janza.
With the current prevailing financial crunch, I think it is just wise that a local coach is given preference.
Lwandamina should be given a chance not as an interim coach but with a defined and attractive contract.
I believe he is a patriotic Zambian who will execute his job as a patriot, after all what guarantees do we have that an expatriate coach will perform miracles.
Wishing the Zambia under-20 women all the best as they host South Africa on Sunday in the Papua New Guinea 2015 World Cup qualifiers.
