PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has arrived in New York, United States of America (USA) to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
154 Heads of State and Governments are gathering at the UN headquarters to discuss several issues and Pope Francis will for the first time be in attendance and will deliver a speech at a whole session given to him dubbed, “The High-Level session of the Pope”.
Mr Lungu who is accompanied by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda touched down at JFK International Airport at 11hours.
He was welcomed by Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo as well as Transport and Communications Minister Yafwa Mukanga.
Others on hand to receive the President were Zambia’s Ambassador to the US Palan Mulonda, Permanent Representative to the UN Mwaba Kasese-Bota, Military Advisor Brigadier General Eric Mwewa and PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri.
Mr Lungu will deliver his maiden speech to the General Assembly since his election as President on January 20, this year.
The President will also deliver a speech at the second day of the Post 2015 Summit tomorrow.
He would also chair a high level meeting of the Landlocked Developing Countries and attend a meeting as of the UNICEF since Zambia is currently the vice-president of the UNICEF executive board.
