Nkwazi 14 Eagles 0
THE ‘High Flying’ Nkwazi at the weekend proved too strong for the pre-tournament favourites Green Eagles as they produced a commanding performance to win the 2015 Heroes and Unity Sevens Rugby tournament staged in Kabwe.
With both sides having been crowned joint champions of the Ndola Sevens tournament last month after the final failed to take off due to bad lighting at Ndola Wanderers, this particular encounter was a battle for supremacy between the two service teams.
Peter Lishika scored two tries in each half while Matthews Kasweka and Laston Mukosa successfully converted both tries to inspire Nkwazi to victory in the lop-sided final.
The Zambia Police Service outfit eliminated Green Buffaloes via a resounding 10-0 score line in the semi-final while Eagles dismissed ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka with a narrow 12-10 score to progress to the final.
A win saw Nkwazi walk away with K10,000 prize while Eagles pocketed K7,500. Buffaloes, Lusaka and Diggers B bagged K3,500 each after the place competition failed to take off owing to poor lighting.
In addition to the runners-up prize, Eagles emerged the most disciplined team at the tournament and bagged K2,500 with player Tedius Chipoya pocketing K1,000 after scooping the Player of Tournament award. The women category saw Eagles A and B clash in the final but it was the A team that emerged victorious after beating their counterparts 21-14 to pocket K3,000.
However, the B team stepped up its performance to see off Red Arrows with a 7-5 win to claim K2,000 and K1,000, respectively.
Chibuluma and Kansanshi failed to make the trip for the tournament that attracted 20 clubs.
