NATIONAL Paralympic Committee (NPC) president Sara Brotherton says the qualification of Richard Lubanza to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is a culmination of years of hard work and determination by the Paralympics body.
Lubanza booked his place at the Rio Games after lifting 135kg in the men’s 72kg power-lifting competition at the just-ended 2015 All-Africa Games (AAG) in Congo Brazzaville.
The Zambian beat the 132kg qualifying mark set by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) which was used as a threshold for qualification to the Rio Games during the AAG.
Brotherton said in an interview yesterday that Lubanza’s qualification had shown that paralympians in the country had the potential to deliver positive results when given adequate support.
