By KENNEDY MUPESENI –
FARMERS in Mungwi District want to establish a marketing and storage facility to create a robust market for their agricultural products.
The move is meant to address challenges faced due to the remote nature of the district in accessing the market for their produce.
Wilfred Chikwanda, Nfinshe Ward Development Committee treasurer, disclosed that plans to set up a marketing and storage facility had advanced.
He said this in an interview at Nfinshe Primary School in Mungwi District.
Mr Chikwanda said having such a facility in place would boost farmers’ morale to grow more because of the assured market and safe storage.
The development committee is looking for about K100,000 to build a storage facility.
Mr Chikwanda said most of the crops produced in the area like soya beans, cassava and maize went to waste because of a lack of storage facilities.
He said that the committee was succeeding in partnering with various organisations involved in grain buying, which he said was creating a stout market for them.
