IT was the usual pomp and splendor; the jubilation and the rituals that paint the official opening of Parliament, which even recurred on Friday during President Lungu’s task of gracing the national occasion.
However, the event of last Friday has indisputably left an indelible mark of uniqueness and raising hope among many Zambians from different walks of life.
The levels of enthusiasm and approval from the nation have been unprecedented. This is manifested in the evident reactions from many interest groups, where people felt prompted to call or send messages of approval like this one: “Powerful speech to Parliament by President Lungu. Let us support this vision.”
This message came from a Man of God, Apostle Holland Mulenga in Shimabala area, who as an independent observer, saw nothing wrong in endorsing the milestone vision the President rolled out to the nation.
The President touched on many valid issues, which if fully supported with Patriotism, can aid this nation to weather the current storms.
With this, the most important of all said by President Lungu is his proclamation of October 18, 2015 as the day for national repentance, prayer and fasting.
This, by all standards, goes an extra mile and reinforces the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation.
This is a turning point for Zambia and the beginning of good tidings because the true source of national redemption (Jesus Christ) in all spheres of life has been traced.
The Bible says in Psalm 33: 12; ”Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage.”
The President’s mere declaration of that day for the nation to repent, fast and pray to make amends with the Supreme ruler (Jesus Christ) has kick-started the process of deliverance upon the great nation of Zambia.
This can be likened to the children of Israel who fell out of favour with their God for embracing other gods, but later got restored after repenting.
The Bible in Hosea 6: 1-3 says; “ Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us; He has injured us but He will bind up our wounds.”
The Lord was angry with Israel and said; “ Do not rejoice , O Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing-floor.”
Israel was dogged by many problems for embracing Baal, a foreign God until repentance and restoration to God took place.
Hosea 14:1-2 says; “ Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him: Forgive our sins and receive us graciously that we may offer the fruit of our lips.”
Zambia has numerous serious problems and this declaration opens the door to her spiritual, economic, political and social redemption, among others.
Let us embrace this national call and rend our hearts to the Lord whom we have given authority as Supreme ruler over Zambia and it shall be well.
This also sends a strong message to all those donors who want to impose immoral aid conditions on Zambia that Zambia is anchored on the principles of Christianity and will never accept abominable baits like homosexuality and others. Zambia fears God and cannot embrace Baal for a piece of Gold.
President Lungu has hammered the nail on the head; Zambia depends on its spiritual healing and all the other things shall be well as the Bible states in Matthew 6:33.
It is a new dawn indeed!  COMMENT
