GOVERNMENT has encouraged the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) to uphold its role of preaching peace and promoting unity in the country.
Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Howard Sikwela said the church should act against divisive elements that accelerated confusion in the nation.
Reverend Sikwela said this yesterday in a speech read on his behalf by Ndola North Consistory chairperson Shadreck Mulenga at a prayer fundraising breakfast at UCZ Saint Andrews Hall.
The function was held to raise money to acquire office equipment for UCZ Ndola North Consistory.
He also pledged unwavering Government commitment to the profound role that the church continued to play in society.
“Government attaches great importance to the role the church plays in promoting peace and unity and I call on the church to continue to preach peace in the country,” he said
He said congregants should be willing to partner with the church financially to spread the gospel of God and help uplift the moral fibre of society.
Rev Sikwela said the church needed finances and other attendant logistics to facilitate smooth spreading of the gospel in an effective manner.
