MORE than 11 clubs will send their finest pugilists to participate in the Samsung Midlands Best Athletes Boxing tournament at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka today.
Midlands Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) committee member, Christian Kalima said in an interview yesterday that each of the 11 clubs would have 10 boxers in the tournament.
Kalima said that the association is delighted that Samsung has budgeted for this tournament that will see to it that the winners walk out with trophies.
“This tournament will start today then we shall have another one on October 3 and select the champions on October 10. This will be fully sponsored by Samsung,” he said.
Kalima said MABA was using the event as one way of tapping talent among the boxers to represent the association at regional competitions with other provinces.
He said MABA was delighted to have the tournament back on track as they failed to stage it last year due to lack of funding.
“We are happy that we know have a sponsor and to see our winners walk away with trophies,” he said.
