GOVERNMENT has dispelled reports that it has indefinitely postponed the selection and deployment of teachers due to lack of financial resources.
Ministry of Education spokesperson Hilary Chipango said the teacher recruitment process was still on and a road map was being followed to this effect.
Mr Chipango described as false, rumours in some sections of the media that Government had abandoned the recruitment process and postponed it to next year because of lack of funds.
“Government has not postponed the selection and deployment of teachers countrywide, the rumours are false, there is a roadmap and the exercise is still on. After teachers apply, the ministry starts the selection process,” he said.
He said in an interview that teachers were told to apply in their respective districts and that the selection process was on.
Mr Chipango said last month Government had extended the deadline for applicants from the original date of August 14 to August 21, this year.
He said the recruiting process did not just end at teachers applying but also considers a team that sits to start the selection process.
Government was in the process of recruiting 5, 000 teachers country wide this year.
