A CHINESE contractor, Mango Tree, has been engaged to install a new water and sewerage network at a cost of K13 million in Kitwe’s Mukuba-Natwange area.
The project being funded by Nkana Water and Sewerage Company is aimed at improving provision of water and sanitation services in Mukuba-Natwange where residents have experienced challenges of reliable water supply.
Bupe Ward councilor John Chilupula, in whose area Mukuba-Natwange was located, confirmed the development in an interview in Kitwe yesterday.
Mr Chilupula who expressed happiness at the project said Mukuba-Natwange had challenges with water and sanitation because of lack of standard infrastructure to support such services. He said that people in the area had to put up their own water pipes including digging soakaways for sewerage services.
The high number of soakaways in the area had put the lives of people at risk as chances of an outbreak of water borne diseases were high.
