By JOWIT SALUSEKI –
AFTER being away from music for a while, songbird Tasila Mwale last Saturday gave out a flawless show at the Alliance Francaise to send the patrons dancing.
Dubbed as Siku ya Malizu (Night of Malizu) it was a live interpretation of the very best of the diva who is a 2015 Zambian Music Award (ZMA) winner for Best Traditional Music.
Stepping on stage around 21:00 hours, Tasila brightened the night with beautifully voiced music which she spiced up with storytelling while not forgetting to give the audience songs from her latest Malizu album.
Although it was a night of Malizu, she did not entirely forget to unleash some of her old signature tracks such as Uchi (honey) and Nali Mudiga (I love him) which to date are still household tunes.
To many of her music followers, Tasila’s performance took them down memory lane to the year 2002 when she was a little known shy and urbane singer that won the M-Net Idols Zambia competition which led to the birth of her music career.
Her first album Uchi featured the writing talents of Zambian music royalty, Joe Chibangu, Saboi of Shatel and Leo &Mweembe of Black Muntu. It received generous airplay and spawned hits like Nalimudiga, Kiwena Fela and Lelo.
It was noy surprising then that patrons paid K30 as entry fee to watch her perform live performance at Allliance Francaise on Saturday last week.
Next week on Friday, the Alliance Francaise will host The Zesco Light Orchestra, which will be a pure madness and musical chaos created by noise of jug band instruments such as newspapers, sisters-washboard, spoons, bells and Plummer tools.
This will be done while playing old Jazz from 1900 till 1920 with satirical lyrics.
On September 21, the centre will organise the Zambia Short film festival an opportunity for aspiring film makers to gain experience before making feature films, creating a base for professionalism for a long time career.
