HE is an accomplished Jazz maestro best described as the wizard of the saxophone.
Brian Mugenyi the Ugandan based saxophonist is an accomplished young musician, composer and singer.
The saxophonist who has made his mark in Uganda is in Zambia to expand corporation with Zambian musicians and producers and to see how best they can work in partnership together.
“Despite us having different languages and different styles African music is quite similar because we are one family”, he says.
Brian says musicians in Africa should not forget their roots when incorporating new technology as it gives their music uniqueness.
Even though music can be done to match the modern days the African touch to the music should not be lost on the way, he says.
Brian added that the reason for his visit to Zambia is to exchange ideas with local artistes so that they can share platforms both in Zambia and Uganda.
“As an artiste it is important to discover ripe market for the music industry and I strongly feel Zambia is the next great home for me,” he says.
The soulful saxophonist player performed at Lusaka’s Misty Jazz Restaurant, Portical, Afro Red and the web where he entertained the audience with his saxophone.
He performed songs from his latest album “Dawn” which is a collaboration of Ugandan folk tunes of Bangada people of Uganda and the modern tune to match the current style of music.
Brian has been hosted as one of the Main Acts at the Zanzibar International film Festival, and the other at the Difficult Dialogue Small Ampi Theater in Tanzania.
The talented saxophonist has worked with Uganda’s leading bands like Qwela and Code 9.
He released his first album Tilted Take Time in 2013.
