MORE than 220 golfers will today take part in the President’s Putter tournament at the Lusaka Golf club.
This tournament, which will be the biggest field the course will be hosting this year, was preceded by a Black Tie Gala Dinner at Hotel Intercontinental where various prizes were given out.
Lusaka Golf Club president Raj Sharma said the tournament was over-subscribed and that the organising committee had to set limit on the field to ensure maximum enjoyment for those making draw.
“This will be a great golf fun day and I as President is delighted to be hosting this great tournament that will have some dignitaries taking part,” he said.
Some of the names in the draw include United States of America Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz, Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda, who is also the club trustee, and Africa Golf Confederation president Joe malanji.
Sharma said the size of the field was overwhelming and it was gratifying that people had responded to the tournament.
He said the tournament was about fostering of ties amongst the golfers involved with the Lusaka Golf club and also for the good of the club.
Sharma said it was because of this that the club decided to move the venue of the prize giving from the traditional Lusaka terraces to the Hotel Intercontinental and also hold a Dinner Gala.
“This year we are also lucky that we have sponsors in Allied Mobile, Microsoft as well as Intercontinental Hotel who have always been with is. It will be a great golfing to end a good golfing year for the club,” he said.
The Lusaka Golf Club will in the next two week hold its annual general meeting.
