SPORTS Minister Vincent Mwale says his ministry is pondering introducing a ticketing system to be used at both the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Mwale said his ministry will engage the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to see how best the system can work so that even paying for usage of the two stadia can be addressed.
“We are aware that the association has been facing challenges and that’s why we want to sit down with them and see if we can find the best way they can pay for the use of the stadium,” he said.
FAZ currently owes the Levy and Heroes stadia managements in excess of K1.3 million in unpaid match user fees.
The minister expressed confidence that a solution would be found on how FAZ could be charged for using the stadia through the ticketing system.
He expressed sadness that the Heroes Stadium was being under utilised as FAZ has opted to use Nkoloma Stadium for some international matches but was quick to add that the association had its own reasons for using an alternative venue.
Meanwhile, Mwale said maintaining the stadium is costly and regretted the theft of 18 fire hoses at the facility.
He said it was important that everyone is charged for using the stadium as the revenue helps towards paying for water, electricity and wage bills.
A caretaker at the stadium told the minister on Tuesday that thieves ransacked the facility stealing some fire hoses from which the security only managed to retrieve two from the 20 that were stolen.
