A FORTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD woman of Ndola has allegedly been swindled of K17, 660 by a man who claimed that he could double her monthly salary at her work place.
Susan Nsama of 3071 Mangwana Road in Masala Township, a salaries officer of Panorama Security Company is charged with theft by servant.
Nsama collected money from Panorama Security Company in Kitwe which was meant for officers in Ndola but diverted to see the person who claimed he could use black magic to make the money multiply.
Nelly Miamba an assistant accountant officer at the security company gave Nsama 38 envelopes containing a total of K17, 660, meant to pay security officers.
Nsama said she could not pay the officers their salaries because she had given the unknown ‘magician’ to perform the claimed act but he later vanished with the funds.
“After I gave the magician the K17, 660, he vanished and the money disappeared and only came back to my senses later on,” she said
Francis Mutale the company’s project manager said on July 23, Nsama failed to report for work, stating she was afraid to go for work because she had lost the money.
Mr Mutale said Nsama stopped picking up her calls which prompted him to report the case to Ndola Central Police leading to her arrest.
During hearing of facts, Nsama admitted to the charge and was convicted by Ndola Magistrate Bubala Sikalunda.
Nsama asked for the court’s leniency and that she did not intend to lose the funds.
She informed the court that she did not know what was happening but only realised after she had been swindled.
The woman has been sentenced to six months simple imprisonment.
