THE Kitwe City Council (KCC) has started impounding vehicles as well as apprehending members of the public using undesignated stations.
This is aimed at restoring road sanity.
KCC public relations officer Donna Mbalwe said loading as well as boarding from undesignated stations such as lay-by points is illegal and as such, the council had resolved to apprehend anyone found wanting.
She said vehicles operating as public-service vehicles and loading from undesignated stations would be charged for contravening, while members of the public are being slapped with idle standing.
Ms Mbalwe said in an interview yesterday that motorists being found in conflict with the law on contravening were being subjected to a penalty fee of K450 while members of the public charged with idle standing were required to pay K250.
