ERB 628x350By BRIAN HATYOKA –
THE Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has collected samples of fuel from various service stations in Livingstone to investigate complaints from motorists that the commodity in the tourist capital has a strange smell.
ERB senior regional manager for Southern Province Stephen Mwiinga said in an interview yesterday the board got fuel samples from all the service stations in Livingstone and were sent to a private laboratory on the Copperbelt to investigate the claim.
“I can confirm that we took samples from all the service stations in Livingstone and we will inform you of our findings when the results are out soon,” Mr Mwiinga said.
Some Livingstone motorists have lately been complaining of a strange smell from their vehicles after refueling.
Other motorists talked to said they feared that the commodity might damage their vehicles in the long run.
At the weekend, Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister Christopher Yaluma said the recently procured crude oil, which was contaminated, was being processed at Indeni Petroleum Refinery.
Mr Yaluma said the Government could not take back the oil but opted to refine it using a special chemical.
