Ndola 3 Zesco Solwezi 0
MUSA Kasonka Stadium was set alight at the weekend as FAZ Division One North side, Ndola United, ran riot to register a rare home victory over a sloppy Zesco Luapula in a Week 22 encounter.
Not only was it a sweet victory for the club cheered on by chairperson Bruno Mukeya. The win was a life-saver for coach Lawrence Mweemba whose job was on the line after a spate of poor results that saw the Ndola City Council outfit go on a four-game losing streak.
Reuben Mwape scored a brace while Sam Chulu added another goal to inspire the home side to a deserved victory, much to the amusement of a partisan crowd that had not tasted a win for weeks.
With Mukeya impressed with the improved performance of the team since the executive committee handed a three-match ultimatum to the coach, Mweemba’s job is secure.
“We are now seeing good things in the team, they have shown great improvements and with this, the coach (Mweemba) can stay on because the team is going up,” Mukeya said.
A win moved Ndola nited in the top half on 31 points.
Kalulushi 1 Gomes 0
The summit of the table remained unchanged as the promotion chasing duo of Kalulushi Modern Stars and Lumwana Radiants collected maximum points to keep up the pace.
Leaders Kalulushi posted a 1-0 win over Gomes while Lumwana beat Chindwin Sentries with an identical score-line to remain tied on 45 points but separated on goal difference.
Other results: Kansanshi 0 Zesco Luapula 0, Roan 0 Chambishi 0,Mining 1 Indeni 3, Kitwe United 1 FQM 1, Real Nakonde 1 CB Buffaloes 0, Konkola Mine Police 0 Mufulira Blackpool 1.
Tigers 2 Katete 0
In the southern zone, Lusaka Tigers got their season back on track with this win over Katete Rangers which also took them back into second position on the table after enduring a run of three matches without a win.
The win took Tigers up to 43 points, same as Nampundwe, who were beaten 1-0 away to Zesco Shockers, but the Matero side is a staggering 10 points off league leaders Kabwe Warriors who were out of action having played this fixture against Mongu Youth Stars three weeks ago.
But sadly, the Week-22 fixtures were marred by low scoring matches with just seven goals scored in eight matches played.
Livingstone Pirates defeated Zesco Malaiti Rangers 1-0 with the goal coming from Francis Banda to raise them above the relegation cut point.
Medics 0 LCC 1
Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli’s Lusaka City Council (LCC) continued with their struggle to beat relegation with this away win over Mumbwa Medics but did little to haul them away from trouble as they remained third from the bottom.
Their town mates City of Lusaka made a futile long journey to Kaoma where they went and lost 1-0 to Luena Buffaloes but still stayed above the drop zone.
Kalomo Jetters proved once again they were in Division One to stay after this encouraging 1-0 win away to Paramilitary that moved them to seventh position on the log with 31 points.
The two other games in the league played at Independence Stadium ended in goalless draws, and these involved draw masters Prison Leopards who played Riflemen, and the earlier kick-off involving Matero United and Kafue Celtic.
