COPPERBELT University (CBU) lecturers have insisted that they will not resume work under the management of Professor Naison Ngoma and his team.
CBU Academics Union (CBUAU) acting general secretary Kawunga Nyirenda said their demands still stood and they were waiting for feedback from the Government.
Dr Nyirenda said the lecturers’ resolve was to change management at the institution because keeping a bad management would set a bad precedence as anyone would get away with doing the wrong things.
Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili warned that the Government would fire the lecturers if they did not resume work by Friday (yesterday).
Meanwhile, the CBU Council says it will present its decisions and resolutions on the confusion that has rocked the institution for the past three months to Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education Minister Michael Kaingu.
On July 8 this year, Dr Kaingu announced the closure of CBU after lecturers downed tools demanding the resignation of Prof Ngoma and the entire management at CBU.
CBU registrar Helen Mukumba said the council had made decisions and resolutions towards reducing the time that the academic life of major parts of the university remained non-operational.
Ms Makumba said in a statement issued in Kitwe yesterday that the council made the decision after a special meeting convened yesterday to discuss matters pertaining to the current situation at the university.
“The council has made decisions and resolutions towards reducing the time that the academic life of major parts of the university remains non-operational,” she said.
Ms Mukumba said the council considered the reports from the special committees which had been set up to study the specific concerns raised by all parties and the recommendations from these committees.
