UGANDA’s Minister of Tourism and Wildlife Tress Buchanayendi has applauded Zambia’s investment in tourism, this was heard during a recent visit to that country.
Ms Buchanayendi said the visit by President Edgar Lungu has accorded her chance to meet and discuss issues concerning tourism with Zambia’s Tourism Minister Jean Kapata.
“We want to ensure that you teach us how we can start walking with the lions, elephant, and leopards as Zambians do because tourists wanted experience but it is easy to do so in Uganda.
She expressed interest in learning Zambia’s way of maintaining lions in especially the Mukuni big five tourism project in Livingstone.
And Ms Kapata said she had invited her Ugandan counterpart to visit Zambia and learn more about tourism in Zambia.
“Zambia and Uganda are going to start exchange programmes using the already existing institutions in the tourism industry , hospitality and capacity building,” she said.
She said Zambia had over 2500 lions which Uganda should come and see as it would be good for them to visit Zambia and package the destinations together.
“Ugandans can start coming to see the victoria falls , the big five and were also interested in what his royal highness chief Mukuni does to walk with the lions, leopards and elephants, they too would like to do a similar thing which they do not have,” she said.
Ms Kapata said Zambia would also learn how Uganda was managing to run many hotels and lodges in the country saying Zambia need a conventional facility that would benefit both countries.
