More than 70 residents who were displaced in Lusaka’s Ng’ombe Township in 2013 have sued for compensation from a private company that displaced them.
Laston Kunda and 71 others have asked the Lusaka High Court to order Superdoll Limited and David Nkonde to pay them K7 million as compensation for their demolished structures and building materials.
The 72 lost their houses in a demolition allegedly instigated by Superdoll Limited and Nkonde which also resulted into the loss of their building materials.
In the writ of summons filed in the principal registry of the Lusaka High court, Kunda stated that they were at all material times Ng’ombe displaced group while Mr Nkonde was a Zambian enjoying life.
Kunda on behalf of others said that Mr Nkonde, acting with other unknown persons demolished their structures which were at different levels from the foundation to the roof level.
Two houses were complete and ready for occupation.
He said the demolition exercise took them unaware and as a result the residents lost other materials such as building sand, pockets of cement, planks, roofing sheets, nails and other things.
He said that if only they were warned or given notice or any order,  they would have obliged to such authority.
Kunda said since there was no warning conveyed to them, they were now demanding compensation for their demolished structures and other materials amounting to K7 million.
