in Entebbe, UGANDA
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is tomorrow expected in Entebbe, Uganda for a two-day State visit.
President Lungu and his entourage would land at Entebbe Airport and later be driven to State House to meet his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni.
Mr Lungu’s visit is symbolic as the last Zambian President, late Frederick Chiluba visited Uganda in 1999, while Mr Museveni last visited Zambia in 2004 under late President Levy Mwanawasa’s rule.
This is according to a tentative programme released by Zambia’s High Commission to Tanzania and Uganda, Judith Kapijimpanga.
Ms Kapijimpanga said President Lungu’s visit to Uganda would help strengthen bilateral relations which had stalled for several years.
Mr Lungu, during his stay, would among other engagements have meetings with Mr Museveni and other stakeholders and tour a chemical company manufacturing antiretroviral drugs.
Ms Kapijimpanga said the mission hoped that Zambian scientists would take advantage and tap into this magnificent chemical company and establish one in Zambia.
Ms Kapijimpanga said there was need for both countries to revive the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in order to strengthen bilateral relations especially in defence, education and health.
