SEVEN candidates have successfully filed their nomination papers for the Bangweulu parliamentary by-election in Samfya slated for August 6, this year.
The candidates are Anthony Kasandwe of the Patriotic Front (PF), Robby Mwansa on Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) ticket and Morgan Mwewa of the National Restoration Party (NAREP).
Others are UPND candidate, Bulanko Muma, Christian Democratic Party (CDP) candidate, John Kabila as well as two independent candidates, Prudence Mwansa and Elijah Bwalya.
Samfya Council secretary and electoral officer, Harry Kwenda received the nomination papers yesterday.
The Bangweulu seat fell vacant after the death of area Member of Parliament Chifita Matafwali of the PF on May 20, this year. He died in India after an illness.
MMD Luapula Province chairperson Malama Kapolyo said in an interview that the former ruling party was unable to field a candidate despite having attracted a lot of attention from people that were willing to stand on the party ticket.
“We have these unresolved issues in our party so how do I forward names of people wanting to contest on our ticket to a non-functioning national executive council?” Mr Kapolyo asked.
