THE Ndola City Council (NCC) has commenced the installation of street lights on Kabelenga Avenue in Ndola.
Ndola Town Clerk Ernest Sumaili checked on the progress of the works yesterday and was satisfied the project has come to fruition.
Mr Sumaili said the installation of street lights would not only beautify the City but provide security services to members of the public.
“We have started installing street lights along Kabelenga Avenue, am happy with the works being done so far, they are progressing well and in no time we will light-up the avenue,” he said.
He said the installation of street lights was being done with the help of members of the community who were financially contributing towards the project.
Mr Sumaili said the total cost for the installation of street lights on Kabelenga Avenue was estimated at K45, 000 and that K37, 500 had been mobilised.
Several companies and individuals joined hands to pool finances for the lighting of Kabelenga Avenue.
Among the companies were, Times Printpak Zambia Limited which contributed K6, 000 to the project, SGC, Lynx, Aabiya Lodge, Crossways College and Butcher Quip.
Others were Zanji Lodge, LTII Supermarket and Pantry Pride Limited.
Project Resource Mobilisation Committee chairperson, Aziz Mohammed, the proprietor of Pantry Pride commended various organisations that had provided the resources towards the project.
Mr Mohammed urged individuals and other business firms to contribute and help bring sanity to the streets of Ndola.
