By CHUSA SICHONE and JAMES KUNDA –

RENOWNED urologist Francis Manda has died at the age of 67.
Dr Manda’s first born son Kunda confirmed the demise of his father in an interview yesterday.
Dr Manda died at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) yesterday morning after an illness.
“Yes, it is true (that my father has died). He died at 07:30 hours yesterday. He wasn’t doing too well health-wise,” he said.
At the time of his death, Dr Manda was offering consultancy services to UTH, Teba Hospital, Lusaka Trust Hospital and Maina Soko Military Hospital, among others.
Dr Manda will be remembered for his outspokenness on sexual reproductive health issues, on ZNBC Radio 4 programme Manzi Valley Therapy.
Dr Manda is survived by a wife and six children.
His funeral is being held in Kabulonga in Lusaka. Further details, including burial, will be communicated at a later stage.
In a related development, MMD Solwezi West Member of Parliament Humphrey Mwanza has died.
Mr Mwanza also died at the UTH yesterday after suffering from a stomach tumor.
Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini announced the death of Mr Mwanza during parliamentary proceedings yesterday.
“The deceased MP underwent an operation this week and doctors managed to remove the tumor. He, however, passed away this morning in the intensive care unit,” Dr Matibini said.
Parliament observed a minute of silence in honour of Mr Mwanza, whose funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
Mr Mwanza is the second MP to die in the current session of Parliament after PF Bangweulu MP Chifita Matafwali who died in May this year.
Mr Mwanza has been MMD MP for Solwezi West since 2006.
MMD president Nevers Mumba said Mr Mwanza provided exceptional leadership in his constituency and considered personal sacrifice for constituents and the party as his foremost obligation.
